Live Earth-July 7, 2007

July 19, 2007

Here is my teacher’s blog, and I’m gonna write about one of his posts (Live Earth).
I’ve learned a lot of things besides English since I came to the US. I was really surprised sometimes. I have a lot of things I don’t know even if it’s in Japan. I had an opportunity to think of our live by meeting my friends from countries except Japan. One of my friends, who is from Nigeria, wants to enter university in the US, and she was forwarding the plan. Finally, she couldn’t get her visa. There are some friends who want to see their family, but they can’t see their family because of the promlem of visa. When I heard, I was surprised because it’s easier for Japanese to get visas. I also learned different religion. I learned taboo. My study here is going to finish soon, but I’m gonna continue studying English and the earth. Thank you everyone and Alex. Live Earth is also in Japan, isn’t it. Makuhari Messe is not far from my home. I will try to go there.

American Christmas

July 12, 2007

It’s summer now, but I’m gonna write about last winter to feel cool. I heard here was so cold in winter, and the ground was coverd with a lot of snow before I came here. There is snow in Japanese winter also. There is the same amount snow as here during winter in the north of Japan, but There is less snow than here in Tokyo. I was surprised when I saw as much snow as 1 meters. It’s was beautiful! I could have done skiing. I was also surprised at cold. My bady was tingling with cold. At Christmas season, I saw many decoration and beautiful illumination around houses. So nice!!

church

July 11, 2007

The picture below is the church which I went to every Sunday before I moved in my present apartment. Most Japanese are Buddhist, but we didn’t learn Buddhism especially. I was surprised that Christian learned Christianity well. Now, I go to another church which is near my apartment, and I started studying the Bible. However, the Bible study is in English. It’s good for improving my English, but It’s a little bit hard for me…. A pastor whose church I go to every Friday gave me the Japanese Bible. I understand the Bible!! I also want to remember songs sung in church.

Happy Birthday

July 11, 2007

I was invited to my friend’s Birthday party. I was thinking what I would give her as a gift. I remembered she liked soft rice cakes staffed with something seet like bean jam, cream or strawberry. It’s a Japanese sweet called “daihuku”. I went to a Japanese store to get it, and I found freezen soft rice cakes with sesame and cream. She was very happy with them. We ate dinner, and played Nintendo Wii. I wrote about Nintendo Wii on my blog before. It’s so interesting. After that, we played a card game that each one had 7 red cards, and one people picked up one green card which had one word on it, and we picked one red card which was in our hands to fix the green card’s meaning. we had played the game until 12a.m.

cedar point

July 10, 2007

I went to cedar point with my sister-in-law and her friend. I think everybody here know cedar point. It’s an amusement park. This was my first visit there. I’ve heard about cedar point before. It’s a huge amusement park, and there are a lot of scary roller coasters. I like roller coasters, but I hadn’t got on roller coasters for a long time, so I was scared. We got on a ride which was not scary to get used. It turned around, so I felt bad. I was asked to got on a standing coaster. At first, I didn’t wanna get it on, but I tried. It twisted and turned, and fell down from a high place. It’s very scary. I couldn’t open my eyes, and I shouted. We saw snoopy’s ice skating show. I enjoyed it best.

Independence Day

July 5, 2007

July 4th is Independence Day, so most American hold a party or something like that. I was invitied to a barbecue by my friend and saw her family. I went to her cousin’s house and church. Her cousin is a pastor, so his house is next to the church. I ate lunch first when I got there, then we played soccer, ping-pong, and frisbee. My friend belongs to a girl’s soccer team, so she is good at soccer. We played a frisbee game. I’ve played frisbee before, but just repeated throwing and catching it. This was my first time. The game was that we were separated into two groups, and each teams were going to hit each other’s small poles with a frisbee by passing it to partners. It’s so hot outside. We played outside about for three hours, so I taned. After playing them, we went to down town to see fireworks. It’s so nice. I like fireworks. I had a good time with them.

Arabic food

July 5, 2007

This picture below is the one when I visited my Arabic friend. He cooked it for us. He is a good cook. He often cooked delicious Arabic food for us taking a long time. These are rice , baked chicken, and baked potatos with cheese. Arabic food is put on a big plate and put on the floor. We ate food with our right hand. I heard we couldn’t use our left hand. I always use chopsticks or a spoon or a fork, so It’s a little bit difficult for me at first, in addition, Arabic rice is smoother than Japanese rice. It’s difficult to gather them, but eating them with our hands made food more delicious. Try it!

This picture below is Arabic tea. I also drank Arabic coffee. I’ve never tried Arabic tea, but I’ve tried Arabic coffee at a party which took place at a class after a final examination. Coffee which I drank at the class was very astringent. The second one was more easier to drink for me. The tea cups were very small, and the way to pour tea into the cup was interesting. He held the tea pot and the cup in his hands and poured tea from high place into the cup and made small sound by hitting the tea pot and the cup last.

Thai food

July 5, 2007

The first picture is the one when I went to a Thai restaurant where my friend works. I went to there twice. A lot of Thai food is in my country, but I’ve never been to Thai restaurants. Maybe I’ve never tried Thai food. My friend is from Thailand. I asked her what she recommended. The food is separated into noodles and fried rice. At the first time, I ordered Thai chicken curry and Tahi ice tea which she recommended me. Another friend ordered Thai green curry which is more spicy than the one I ordered. The curry was different from Japanese. Thai curry is more liquid than Japanese curry. The color was orange, and the taste was spicy and sweet because some coconuts are blended. Some cut bamboo shoots and some cut sweet green pepper were in it. It was very nice! The thai ice tea was also nice. I think I’ve drunk that before. At the second visit there, I ordered fried rice. This one is similar to Japanese fried rice. I tried Thai noodles which my friend ordered. I like it! It was so good. I will order it next time.
